$100k February

December and January have been pretty quiet months for me with regard to online poker. At the beginning of December I was in Europe for 2 weeks after my race trophy blow up, then obviously there were Christmas and New Year festivities to drag me away from the tables. On the 3rd of January we were off to Australia to acquaint ourselves with the East coast before jetting to Melbourne for what was supposed to be poker-allies.com’s launching pad in the live arena. Like the at the World Series before it, the early optimism and expectancy faded into alcoholism and lethargy as we both busted out without making the slightest noise. (That’s if you don’t count me causing a minor scene with Tony Hachem).

So, what next? We have both decided to hit it hard in February. Fed up with gallivanting around the Pacific, pretending to be professionals we’re going to put in an insane amount of volume in February. $100k of volume is the target, and remember February only has 28 days. (I apparently forgot the months of the year rhyme when I set this target).

The most I have managed in a single month before is $63192 in October of last year, and of course October has 31 days (I remembered the rhyme). I have no doubt I can do it, and do it well. It will require a lot of discipline, in more than one area and will doubtlessly be a test. Discipline is something I lack at times in other aspects of life, you only have to count the number of times I’ve promised to go for a morning beach run and stayed in bed another hour or said I was only going out for a couple of drinks and rolled in at 4 to realise this, but when it comes to Poker I seem to be able to push the boundaries.

I will be getting up at 7am, an hour earlier than usual, and playing a few extra tournaments at around 11am that I have in the past ignored due to their late finishing time should I go deep. In addition to this, I will also be taking less days off. It is more than embarrassing when I count how many days I’ve worked since arriving in New Zealand. Compared to the hours I put in while in the UK I look like a Victorian Workhouse employee, but if I want to shoot for the top, I know I need to work harder.
